Christmas in Australia
Hello there in the Old World where …
Traditional Jingle Bells
Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh…
No, this is not on in Australia. It is blistery hot and we look for shady places to stay, we jump into the swimming pool or a waterhole to cool down. Christmas time is also party time, we meet friends and family and have that great Aussie BBQ (grill) in the backyard. – And this is the …
Australian Jingle Bells
Dashing through the bush
In a rusty Holden Ute (small delivery truck)
Kicking up the dust
Esky (cooling box) in the boot
Kelpie (dog) by my side
Singing Christmas songs
It’s summer time and I am in
My singlet (garment under the shirt), shorts and thongs (flip flops)
Chorus
Oh, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way
Christmas in Australia
On a scorching summer’s day
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells
Christmas time is beaut (beautiful)
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a rusty Holden Ute
Engine’s getting hot
Dodge the kangaroos
Swaggy (tramp) climbs aboard
He is welcome too
All the family is there
Sitting by the pool
Christmas day, the Aussie way
By the barbecue!
Come the afternoon
Grandpa has a doze
The kids and uncle Bruce
Are swimming in their clothes
The time comes round to go
We take a family snap (picture)
Then pack the car and all shoot through
Before the washing up

Six white Boomers (large male kangaroos)
Did you know that Santa unharnesses his reindeers on his Australian run?
Six white Boomers, snow-white boomers are racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun on his Australian run.
Where I live – in North Queensland – Christmas time is also the beginning of the storm season – with heavy monsoonal storms just like cyclones and wide spread flooding. The question we all bear in mind: Do we still have a roof over our heads after this season?
Santa and his six white Boomers never made it into Darwin
On Christmas Eve 1974 a warning sounded out on all the broadcasting stations. A great storm was nearabout.
The boys and girls all sleeping there. Tomorrow was their day. The Mums and Dads all praying that the storm would blow away.
Santa never made it into Darwin. Disaster struck at dawn on Christmas Day. A big wind came and blew the town away.
Australia was shocked and saddened as the news came through. Darwin was devastated by Cyclone “Tracey”.
Also it is over 30 years ago when it happened and many more cyclones hit the country since – Christmas and “Tracy” is synonymous for us.
Dear Readers
I would like to finish my Christmas story with John Lennon’s Christmas Song “War is Over” – I just love it.
All the very best from

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let’s stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
War is over
If you want it
War is over
Now …
